Viadux

Viadux - Design Engine

Viadux is a 40 storey residential tower block situated in Manchester city centre. The façade is formed in unitised curtain walling from level 2 to 40 including several architectural features, such as fins and bespoke patterned aluminium panels.

Design Engine Structures was appointed to carry out the design of the towers unitised curtain walling, feature fins, patterned aluminium panels and all associated connections.

We worked closely with the design team to develop a bespoke die for the unitised mullion such that it would be able to support the forces transferred to it by the outstand feature fin. Furthermore, we also developed a bespoke glass support chair for the larger level 02 frames.

For the bespoke patterned aluminium panel we utilised the use of finite element analysis and its ability to run large deformation 3rd order analysis.

For the curtain wall frame connections we had discussion with the manufacturer and managed to produce solutions which used cast-in concrete channels. This helped increase the speed and ease of installation of the façade on site.
