Keele University – Veterinary Building

Synopsis:
To design the SFS structure to support the various cladding systems in accordance with the architects concept drawings.
Challenges:
This was a complicated SFS structure that required precision engineering. The Curtain wall was value engineered in many areas, leading to both over sail, loadbearing and infill design requirements of the SFS structure. The feature wall cladding is expanded mesh panels that had to undergo a number of processes at different factories before being delivered to site. Optimisation of panels and precision laser cutting was carried out to ensure the lining through of the mesh pattern, the mesh was welded and back framed to give the illusion of an invisible fixed façade, coupled with an array of LED back lighting to provide a stunning architectural feature to the front entrance of the building.
